Product Description

Cork comes directly from the bark of the cork oak tree. The bark is not harvested until the trees reach a certain maturity (generally between 25-30 years old and 24 inches in circumference). The cork oak tree is unique in that it regenerates its bark when it is removed so the tree is unharmed when the bark is harvested. Once a cork oak's bark is harvested, its bark is not removed again for another 9 to 12 years. During the fabric manufacturing process, the cork can be combined with other natural products such as straw or fennel to obtain unique patterning or it can be dyed to add color. Cork is a renewable, sustainable and vegan resource.

The cork fabric we use is produced in Portugal and does not contain polyurethane nor any animal derived ingredients. The cork manufacturer is officially vegan certified by PETA: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Please note that the cork patterning is natural and therefore not uniform. As a result, each item will be unique.

Cork fabric is often referred to as vegan leather. It is soft and supple but also durable, making it an ideal leather substitute. Cork is naturally resistant to dirt and dust. If items do become dirty over time, the cork fabric can be washed with warm soapy water and then allowed to air dry. The fabric will not stain or discolor.
